another day past
a struggle with modern times.
my internal instinct is to enter an era of non-formalities. filled with work and play and set against the nexus of conversational morality and life. setting fee and letting go into a fragile mix of solids and gases, unbeknownst to any. my rambling state even used to fill my void. mixed emotions fill the room and never-the-less are clearly defined for me and you by today’s headlines. in a world where headlines are enough. in a world where flash floods and blizzards and white-man’s wars and poverty and lies, lies and more lies fill the emptiness… “today i go to work, i do my work, i go home, have dinner in front of the tv, and dream of another life. someone else’s life. i go to bed and dream of that life, and i curl up to the person i say i love but don’t, and i dream of that life in vivid colour and clear pictures and scents. i wake up and do it all over again, starting with that first cup of coffee that was on sale at the giant.” my dream is clear and easy. void myself all the voids and the non voids. unfortunately i live in me and in this time. a place filled with apathy. surrendering to mediocrity, conservatism, nepotism and fundamentalism. i break. i fall. i hurt.
artists working in an effort to challenge the complacent conservative view of art in politics, society, culture and economics apparently have no place in the art world. however, we continue to respond with immediacy, focusing on the issues of our time as living, breathing entities. people must be engaged to practice and experience art on a daily basis and with the engagement of conversation. art is on the cusp of all the duties and norms we perform. acknowledge and be and allow art to forge us out of this quagmire of pity, self and apathy. to really be a part of art, one must remove themselves from the confusion of their environment, even stepping outside themselves, leaving prejudgments and preconceived notions. the viewer must be able to feel every aspect of art in a space where people can come together and experience it full and alive as a living, breathing part of their lives, away from commercial stagnation and conservative non-truths.
