winter in vermont

i am leaving the binghamton area. i was offered a staff position at the vermont studio center in johnson, vermont. this has all happened so fast — i was offered the job about two weeks ago, and decided to take the position about a week and a half ago. i leave binghamton on the 3rd of january 2006.

i spend a month at the studio center in february 2002. it is in a beautiful part of the state, about one hour north from burlington and 45 minutes north west from stowe. it is a great opportunity for me to get back to the daily work ethic of art. i will have access to a printroom, sculpture studio and many connections from month to month. i look forward to the possibilities and challenges ahead if me. i have called binghamton home since august 1996 and have really grown to love it here. although i have been looking for something else for some time, binghamton has offered me such great opportunity. first, at suny binghamton, i explored the possibilities within an academic program where i received my bfa in painting in may 2000. then, as a member of the community, i realized the clear need and desire for an arts presence in the downtown area. i starting with pocket august 2001 and spool mfg in september 2001. i have tried hard to elevate the arts in this area, always respecting it’s history and culture. it was not easy, but i always felt great satisfaction in attempting to push the envelope and offer the area a taste of art they may not have been used to seeing. leaving binghamton is bitter-sweet. i am so excited to continue my search through art and life, but i will greatly miss all the people i have interacted with and gotten to know. this town is a truly amazing place with great people, great energy and great potential. i hope to continue a close relationship with the community, continuing to help further the quality of the arts in the area.

thank you to all of those you have supported me in binghamton, i am forever grateful for all you have helped me do. i am truly honored to say i have lived in the area and have been a part of the arts community here in binghamton. i look forward to seeing the benefit matt ryan is for the city.
