visceral bondage

introduction xi - xii
“he [thoreau] had already made up his mind that most of the ways by which men earn a living are degrading and that men sell themselves into perpetual bondage by conforming to the traditional ways of the world.”
… he toiled over his thoughts, which was his lifetime occupation … for the volumes of which he was author were almost entirely the journals where he industriously assembled his thoughts and observations and tried to extract the basic truth of the cosmos.”

… in this mock world i have created for myself. in rest and in jest. traveling through an intricate underground system of life moving motionless. wired and poised in financial ambition. uploaded, rebooted… in this common mindspace we find little relevance in the glance of moment, the stare of need, the finding of less then more.
