Great man, will be missed by many, especially those of us that had him as a prof.

David Shapiro’s art classes are one of my most cherished and colorful memories from Binghamton. He was a true character and his impression on me will last a lifetime. It is unfortunate that other people will no longer get that experience.

David was one of the first faculty member’s I met upon my arrival in the Art Department in 1981. He often used to come and sit in my office before, after, and inbetween classes, sipping coffee and discussing “life”-art, “manly” trucks, his bum knee, psychic’s and his “Big Dog” Murphy. When I retired, he did a fabulous banner for my going away party which I treasure. He will be missed. Judi Bryant

david was a man like no other…he challenged me artistically like no other instructor had or has to this day. we shared a comical joy of choconut and the choconut inn (a stop that murphy also enjoyed!) as well as amazing arguments about politics, philosophy, art, lifestyle and generational factors. what is the proper consitancy of a brush stroke? only david knows.
