this canvas was 5 x 7 ft. stretcher bars from a previous piece in syndicate — re-stretched with canvas and painted with white latex paint. a single grey band that wrapped around the right corner of the piece and filled the face about two inches.
the painting was hung traditionally on the wall. a painted white 5 x 7 ft. rectangle was placed 4 ft. in-front of the piece directly on the gallery floor.
a second segment of the piece involved three monotypes framed in maple/cherry frames with glass glazing and two cement sculptures on 4 ft. pedestals. these materials were also re-purposed. i was playing with new ideas of installation, layout and format. what would become an ongoing theme — the 2d wall work responded directly with the floor/sculptural work. the piece was primarily about space and reaction to space — the reaction of the objects in the space and our perception of how objects fall into and out of space/place.

this piece was about looking forward. (while looking back at it) — and would later be realized as a very personal statement. a reflection on materials, ideas, friendships, networks.
this piece started with the painting — black acrylic on canvas. after making a sculpture out of found wood pieces (used for cement pouring) i decided to take this further using found elements in their more natural state and placing them within space — highlighting light, shadow and the movement of the viewer.
